How To Use A Wax Warmer

on Aug 23 2024
At Seventh Avenue Apothecary, we believe in making every moment special with the perfect scent. Whether you're setting the stage for a cozy night in or refreshing your home with invigorating aromas, we’ve made a straightforward guide to help you understand how to use your wax warmers to best create a welcoming atmosphere that resonates with your style. What Is A Wax Warmer? A wax warmer, also known as a wax melter, is a decorative and functional device designed to melt scented wax without using a flame. Instead of traditional candles, which require a wick to burn, wax warmers use a heat source—such as an electric bulb or heating plate—to gently melt the wax. As the wax melts, it releases its fragrance into the air, filling your space with delightful scents. Wax warmers are a safe and efficient alternative to candles, offering a flameless way to enjoy your favorite aromas. Intructions: Choose the Right Wax Melt:Start by selecting a wax melt that resonates with your senses and complements the atmosphere you wish to create. With countless scents to choose from, find one that captures your mood and enhances your space. Place the Wax Melt in the Warmer:Pop one or two cubes of your chosen wax melt into the dish of your wax warmer. There's no need to add water—just let the wax do its magic. Turn On the Warmer and Wait for the Melt:For electric warmers, simply switch on the device. As the wax gently melts, it will begin to release its captivating fragrance. Enjoy the gradual transformation of your space as the scent fills the air. Enjoy the Scent and Manage the Warmer:Once the wax is fully melted, sit back and indulge in the aroma wafting through your room. To maintain safety and ensure optimal performance, it’s best to keep the warmer on for no more than 4-5 hours at a time. Knowing When to Change the Wax Melt:When the fragrance begins to fade, it’s time to switch out your wax melt. Typically, wax melts offer 8-10 hours of delightful scent before needing a refresh. Change the Wax Melt Safely:One of the best features of wax melts is their ease of use. After enjoying your scent, allow the wax to cool and solidify. This makes it effortless to remove the wax from the warmer—no mess, no fuss. Safety Precautions for Using Wax Warmers While wax melts offer a safer alternative to traditional candles, it's important to follow a few key safety practices to ensure a worry-free experience: Keep It in Sight: Always monitor your wax warmer while it's in use. Position it away from children and pets to avoid accidents. Handle with Care: The warmer can become hot during operation. Avoid touching it directly to prevent burns or injuries. Dispose Properly: When it’s time to dispose of used wax, avoid pouring it down the drain, as it can cause clogs. Let the wax cool and solidify, then remove it using a paper towel for easy cleanup. How Often Do You Change the Wax in a Wax Warmer? Typically, a single wax melt cube lasts about 8-12 hours, though this can vary based on wax quality, your warmer, and how frequently it's used. For the best results, monitor your wax and experiment to find the ideal duration for your setup. How Long Should You Burn a Wax Warmer? To enjoy your wax warmer’s full fragrance potential, aim to use it for about 4-5 hours. After this period, the scent may diminish. For safety and to prevent overheating, it's best to avoid leaving the warmer on for extended periods. Why Can't I Smell My Wax Melts? If the fragrance of your wax melts seems faint, it might be due to exposure to light or heat, which can weaken their scent. Store your wax melts in a cool, dark place to preserve their aromatic strength and keep your space beautifully scented. What Does a Wax Warmer Do? A wax warmer, or wax melter, is a stylish and eco-friendly alternative to traditional candles. It melts wax to release its fragrance, offering an efficient way to enjoy delightful scents without the need for an open flame. How Long Does It Take for Wax to Melt in a Wax Warmer? Typically, a wax cube takes about 8 hours to fully melt. If using a tealight candle, replace it after around 4 hours as it will burn out before then. Electric warmers may feature timers for added convenience and precision. Check out our curated collection at Seventh Avenue Candles, and let every soy wax melt transform your home into a fragrant retreat.

Explore our collection here:  Soy Wax Melts Other Bulb Options While halogen bulbs are our go-to for their perfect balance of heat and ambiance, here’s a peek at other types of bulbs used in wax warmers: Incandescent Bulbs: A classic choice, incandescent bulbs offer a warm, inviting light and are capable of effectively melting wax. They’ve been a staple in wax warmers for years, bringing a traditional charm to your space. LED Bulbs: For those who prefer a modern touch, LED bulbs provide a cooler light and are highly energy-efficient. Though they produce less heat, they still get the job done and add a contemporary flair to your wax warmer setup. Halogen Bulbs: Our preferred choice, halogen bulbs, deliver a bright and consistent heat that enhances the melting process and creates a lovely ambiance. They are perfect for those who want an efficient and elegant option. What Type of Bulb is a Halogen Bulb? A halogen bulb, also known as a tungsten halogen or quartz-halogen lamp, is a type of incandescent lamp. It features a tungsten filament enclosed in a transparent envelope filled with an inert gas and a small amount of halogen, like iodine or bromine. What is a Halogen Heat Bulb? A halogen heat bulb uses a thick tungsten filament encased in a sealed halogen gas tube. This design produces more light and heat than standard bulbs, enhanced by robust glass insulation and reflective materials, making it ideal for efficient heating applications. What Wattage Light Bulb Do You Need to Melt Wax? The wattage required for melting wax depends on your warmer. Generally, a wax warmer operates optimally at around 35 watts. This wattage balances effective melting with safety, ensuring your wax melts thoroughly to release its fragrance without overheating. Can I Use an LED Bulb in My Wax Warmer? LED bulbs are not suitable for wax warmers. While excellent for general lighting, they lack the necessary warmth to effectively melt wax and release its fragrance. Stick to the recommended bulbs for the best aromatic experience and performance. Is a Wax Warmer Better Than a Candle? Although a wax warmer might have a higher initial cost than a single candle, it proves more cost-effective over time. Wax warmers use lower heat, allowing the wax to last longer and providing a more extended fragrance experience between refills. Choosing the right bulb for your wax warmer is about crafting the perfect atmosphere. At Seventh Avenue Apothecary, our halogen bulbs are chosen to reflect quality and elegance, ensuring your wax melts release their full aromatic potential while illuminating your space with a warm, inviting glow. Whether you opt for halogen, incandescent, or LED, the right bulb will transform your wax warmer into a beautiful centerpiece of fragrance and light.

How To Remove Wax Melts From the Burner

on Aug 21 2024
Keeping your wax burner or wax warmer in pristine condition is crucial for a flawless fragrance experience. Over time, wax melts can leave behind residue that dulls the scent and can affect your burner's performance. Regular cleaning not only maintains the efficiency of your burner but also ensures a fresh, delightful aroma every time you use it. Why You Should Be Cleaning Your Wax Burner Over time, the wax melts you use can leave behind a buildup of residue on your burner. This residue not only dulls the scent but can also impede the proper functioning of your device. Leaving old wax to sit for extended periods makes it increasingly difficult to clean, complicating the maintenance process. Regularly cleaning your wax burner prevents residue accumulation, ensuring it remains in top condition and delivers consistent, delightful scents every time you use it. For a perfectly aromatic environment, make wax burner upkeep a part of your routine. How to Clean Your Wax Burner Maintaining a pristine wax burner is essential for ensuring a consistent, delightful fragrance experience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to keep your wax burner in top shape: Let the Wax Harden  Begin by allowing the wax to cool and harden completely. Attempting to clean while the wax is still melted can lead to a messier process and make the wax harder to remove. Patience here pays off, as solidified wax is much easier to handle. Scrape Off Excess Wax  Once the wax is solid, gently use a plastic scraper, a credit card, or a nectar card to lift off as much wax as possible. Be cautious not to scratch the surface of your wax burner, especially if it’s crafted from delicate materials. Clean with Rubbing Alcohol  With the bulk of the wax removed, take a cotton ball or pad and saturate it with rubbing alcohol. Gently wipe away any remaining wax residue and stains. The rubbing alcohol will help dissolve the wax and clean away lingering marks, leaving your burner fresh and ready for the next use. Cleam the Dish  If your wax burner includes a dish, give it some attention too. The dish can accumulate wax residue and debris that affect performance. Wipe it down with a damp cloth or paper towel, and follow up with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol for a thorough clean. Establish a Cleaning Routine  Regular maintenance is key to keeping your wax burner in prime condition. After each use, remove any residual wax and clean your burner every few weeks to prevent build-up. This routine ensures your wax burner continues to deliver the best aromatic experience, time and time again. How to Clean a Burnt Wax Melt Burner Use a silicone spatula to gently scrape off hardened wax without scratching your burner. If needed, clean with mild detergent and warm water, then rinse and dry thoroughly before using again. For stubborn residue, a cloth dampened with white vinegar can help dissolve the wax. Do Wax Melts Burn Away Completely? Unlike candles, wax melts don’t evaporate; they simply lose their fragrance over time. As the scent diminishes, you’ll be left with unfragranced wax that remains solid unless removed. How to Stop Wax Melts Sticking to the Burner? Use wax melt liners to prevent wax from sticking to your burner. After the melt has been used, simply lift out the liner and discard it, keeping your burner clean and hassle-free. Keeping your wax burner clean is the key to a consistently wonderful fragrance experience. Follow these straightforward tips and you'll ensure your burner stays in tip-top shape and your scents stay fresh and inviting. A little regular care goes a long way! How To Make Your Wax Melts Smell Stronger

on Aug 20 2024
Transforming your space with rich, inviting scents is a breeze with wax melts. But to truly maximize their fragrance potential and create an atmosphere that's both warm and captivating, a few thoughtful steps can make all the difference. Discover how to improve the aroma of your wax melts with simple yet effective techniques. What Are Wax Melts? Wax melts are revolutionizing the fragrance game, potentially even outshining traditional candles. These wickless wonders offer a safer scent experience for homes with pets and children by eliminating the risk of an open flame. Plus, they avoid the soot buildup that candles can leave behind, making for a cleaner and more convenient option. With no wick to burn out, wax melts provide a consistent aroma until every bit of fragrance has dissipated. They also come in stylish designs that enhance your home décor, blending aesthetics with delightful scents. This makes them a favorite among modern consumers and a smart choice for businesses looking to offer something special. What Makes Wax Melts Smell Strong? Fragrance Oil Concentration:The heart of a wax melt’s scent strength lies in its fragrance oil concentration. At Seventh Avenue, we blend up to 12% fragrance oil into our melts, which ensures a robust aroma. The higher the concentration, the more potent the fragrance. Wax Type Matters:The type of wax influences how well scents are held. Soy wax, known for its superior scent throw, captures and releases aromas more effectively than paraffin wax. For a truly vibrant scent experience, opt for wax melts crafted from pure soy wax. Proper Curing Time:Patience enhances fragrance potency. Wax melts require time to fully absorb their scents. At Seventh Avenue, we cure our melts for two weeks to ensure that each one delivers a rich, lasting fragrance. Quantity of Wax:More wax equals more scent. Melting multiple pieces at once can amplify and extend the fragrance throw compared to using just one. For a stronger aroma, consider using several wax melts together. Room Size:The size of your space affects how the scent disperses. Larger rooms need more wax melts to achieve the same intensity of aroma as smaller spaces. Ensure you use enough wax to match your room’s dimensions for an even fragrance spread. Additional Tips:For an extra boost, try placing wax melts near air vents or fans to help distribute the fragrance more evenly throughout the room. How to Boost the Scent of Your Wax Melts Add More Wax Melts - Start by using a few extra wax melts, but be cautious not to overload your melter. The aim is to enhance the scent without causing any wax to spill over. Choose Pure Soy Wax - Opt for wax melts made from pure soy wax. Our melts contain a high fragrance concentration of up to 12%, which guarantees a rich and enduring aroma. Strategically Place Your Melters - For larger rooms, use two wax melters placed in opposite corners. This helps distribute the fragrance evenly, filling the space with a consistent, welcoming scent. Store Wax Melts Properly - Keep your wax melts fresh by avoiding long-term storage. Wax melts that aren’t used regularly can lose their scent strength. Store them in an airtight container to maintain their fragrance until you’re ready to use them. Enhance with Air Circulation - For an extra scent boost, position your melter near an air vent or fan. This will help circulate the fragrance throughout the room, creating a more immersive olfactory experience. Experiment with Scents - Blend different fragrances to craft a custom scent profile that fits your mood and space. Mixing various scents can lead to a unique and personalized aroma that transforms your environment. Why Won't My Wax Melts Smell Strong? If your wax melts aren’t delivering a robust scent, it might be due to insufficient curing time. Wax and fragrance need to blend well during curing to create a lasting aroma. Ensure your melts have had enough time to cure for optimal scent performance. Why Do My Wax Melts Lose Their Smell So Fast?Wax melts can lose their scent quickly due to high heat, frequent use, or poor-quality melts. To maintain a lasting fragrance, use appropriate heat settings and high-quality melts, and avoid overusing them in one session. How to Enhance the Smell of Wax Melts? To boost the fragrance strength of your wax melts, use about 10% fragrance oil by weight. For instance, if you have 100 grams of wax, add 10 grams of fragrance oil. This balance helps ensure a stronger and more enduring scent. How Do You Make Wax Melt Smell Last Longer? For longer-lasting fragrance, use a smaller, shorter burn tealight. This provides gentler heat, preserving the scent longer. Larger tealights produce hotter flames that can quickly burn off the fragrance, so opt for a more controlled heat source to extend your wax melt’s aroma. To ensure your wax melts deliver a powerful and enduring aroma, focus on using high-quality soy wax with a high fragrance concentration, and allow sufficient curing time. Enhance the scent by adding more wax, strategically placing your melters, and storing them properly. With these tips, you'll achieve a consistent and delightful fragrance that perfectly complements your space. Where Does Wax Go When It Melts?

Where Does Wax Go When It Melts?

on Aug 19 2024
It might seem like a bit of magic, but there's a fascinating science behind it. When you light a candle, the wax doesn’t just disappear—it undergoes a remarkable transformation. So, Where Does The Wax Go? Here’s how it works: When you light the wick of a candle, the flame’s heat melts the wax near the base. As the wax turns from solid to liquid, it doesn’t simply vanish. Instead, it follows a journey that’s both intriguing and complex. The liquid wax is drawn up the wick, which acts like a sponge, transporting the wax to the flame. Once there, the intense heat causes the wax to break down into gases. This process, known as combustion, converts the wax’s hydrogen and carbon atoms into carbon dioxide and water vapor. As the wax burns, the candle's glow and warmth come from this chemical reaction. The flame releases energy in the form of light and heat, while the wax molecules react with oxygen in the air. The result? The wax transforms into carbon dioxide and water vapor, which then float away. What Causes Candles to Produce Smoke and Soot? Candles are all about creating a cozy atmosphere and adding a touch of elegance to your space. But sometimes, they can produce smoke and soot, which can dampen the experience.  Understanding Smoke and Soot In a perfectly burning candle, the wax melts evenly and fuels the flame without issue. This results in a clean burn where the wax transforms into carbon dioxide and water vapor—harmless and evaporated into the air. When things go awry, however, incomplete combustion occurs. This happens when the wax melts faster than the flame can burn it. Instead of a clean burn, you end up with smoke and soot—those pesky black particles that can leave a residue on your candle jar and surroundings. Why Does This Happen? It's normal for a candle to flicker or produce a bit of smoke when first lit as it settles into a steady burn. However, persistent smoke and soot might signal that something's off with the wick or the burning environment. How to Keep It Clean To enjoy a pristine burn, remember to trim your wick regularly and keep your candle in a draft-free spot.  The Importance of Candle Wick Sizing and Care At Seventh Avenue Candles, the right wick is essential for a safe, even burn. Here’s why it matters: Wick Size and Care A wick that's too large can cause excessive heat, making your candle burn unevenly and potentially crack its glass container. On the flip side, a wick that’s too small won’t melt the wax pool evenly, leaving you with wasted wax and a dim flame. Trim your wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. A longer wick leads to a hotter, unstable flame, reducing your candle's lifespan and increasing fire risk. Proper trimming ensures a steady, safe burn and maximizes your candle’s longevity. Testing and Performance We rigorously test our candles to ensure the wick size matches the fragrance and vessel. With the right wick care and sizing, your candles burn beautifully and safely, providing the ambiance you love. Where does the wax from wax melts go? Unlike candles, wax melts don’t evaporate. When heated, the wax melts and releases its fragrance, but it doesn’t disappear. Over time, the scent fades, leaving behind the unscented wax, which remains in your melter until you decide to replace it with fresh melts. What happens when candle wax is melted? When a candle is lit, the flame heats the wax near the wick, turning it into a liquid. This liquid wax is drawn up the wick, where it’s vaporized by the flame’s heat. The vaporized wax then breaks down into hydrogen and carbon molecules, creating the candle’s fragrance. Do you burn wax melts until they disappear? Wax melts don’t burn away like candles. Instead, they release their fragrance as they melt. Once the scent fades, the unscented wax stays in the melter. You’ll need to replace it with new melts to refresh the aroma in your space and potentially recycle the remaining wax. The magic of candles is a science worth appreciating. As wax melts, it transforms into carbon dioxide and water vapor, while proper wick care ensures a clean, even burn. How To Make Wax Melts From Candles - DIY

Are you ready to breathe new life into your old candle wax? Creating your own wax melts is a rewarding and eco-friendly way to repurpose leftover wax while indulging in delightful scents. Here, we believe in maximizing the beauty of every fragrance, so we’re excited to guide you through this simple DIY project.  Follow our step-by-step guide and discover how to make your own wax melts that rival our luxurious soy wax melts. Let’s get started and transform those forgotten remnants into fragrant treasures. What You’ll Need: To successfully transform your old candle wax into fresh, new wax melts, gather the following essentials: Old Candles: Make sure you have leftover wax from candles you want to repurpose. Ensure they’re completely cooled before starting. Double Boiler or Pot: For melting the wax, you can use a double boiler on the stovetop. If you don’t have one, a regular pot and a heat-resistant bowl placed on top will work too. Washcloth: Place a washcloth in the bottom of the pot to protect it and keep the candles from direct contact with the pot's surface. Heat-Resistant Molds: Silicone molds are ideal for shaping your new wax melts. Choose molds with designs you like—these can be as simple or as intricate as you prefer. Oven Mitts: Use these to handle hot candle jars and melted wax safely. Paper Towels or Cardboard: Lay these down to catch any spills while pouring the melted wax, keeping your workspace clean. Plastic Knife (Optional): If you're using a shallow plate or pan, a plastic knife can help you spread and texture the wax before it hardens. Refrigerator (Optional): To speed up the cooling process of your wax melts, you can use the refrigerator. This step is optional but useful if you want to speed up the hardening process. Clean Containers: Once your wax melts are ready, store them in clean, dry containers. You can reuse the original candle jars for this purpose. Step by Step Guide: Step 1: Collect the Melted Wax If your candle hasn’t fully melted yet, let it burn until the wax is completely liquefied. Be cautious as the glass can become very hot, and there’s a risk of breakage. Alternatively, use a double boiler method on the stove: Place a cloth in the bottom of a pot, set the candle in the pot on top of the cloth, and fill with water. Simmer until the wax melts. Avoid using the microwave as it can damage your appliance and may cause safety issues. Step 2: Prepare Your Mold Choose a heat-resistant mold for your melted wax. Silicone molds work wonderfully, but avoid plastic as it may melt. Place a protective layer like a paper towel or cardboard underneath to catch any spills. If the candle glass is hot, use oven mitts to handle it safely. Step 3: Pour the Melted Wax Gently pour the melted wax into your mold, filling it nearly to the top. Avoid overfilling to prevent spills. If you don’t have a mold, you can pour the wax onto a shallow plate or pan, then use a plastic knife to spread it out. Once hardened, break it into pieces. Step 4: Cool Down Allow the wax to cool and harden before removing it from the mold. This ensures it retains its shape. While waiting, clean out any residual wax from the candle jar, making sure it's completely cool and safe to handle. Step 5: Final Cooling Once the wax melts are firm and cool to the touch, gently pop them out of the mold. If you want to speed up the cooling process, you can place them in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Step 6: Store and Enjoy Store your newly made wax melts in a clean container, such as the original candle jar, to keep track of their scent. They make delightful additions to your home or thoughtful gifts for friends and family. Enjoy the fresh, personalized aroma in your space! How Do You Make Wax Melts from Glass Candles? To transform candles in glass jars into wax melts, use the double boiler method. Place the jar in a pot of simmering water until the wax melts. Once liquefied, pour the wax into a mold to create your new melts. Avoid microwaving, as glass may not be microwave-safe. How to Melt the Wax Out of a Candle? To remove wax from a candle jar, pour boiling water into the container. This melts the wax, allowing it to float to the top. For softer waxes like soy, hot water that's not boiling will suffice. Once cooled, the wax can be easily removed. Can You Turn Old Candles into Wax Melts? Absolutely! Repurpose your old candles into wax melts by gently heating the leftover wax until it’s melted. Pour it into molds to create new melts. This is a great way to extend the life of your favorite scents and make the most of your candle wax. Can You Cut Up a Candle to Make Wax Melts? Yes, you can cut up leftover candle wax to use in a wax melter. However, be aware that not all candles are created equal. Ensure the wax is compatible with your melter and remember that cutting may affect the burn quality and scent throw. Can You Melt Candle Wax in the Microwave? You can melt candle wax in the microwave, but proceed with caution. Place the wax in a microwave-safe container, set it to high, and heat in short intervals, checking frequently. Avoid leaving it unattended to prevent overheating or potential fire hazards. Can You Use Normal Candle Wax for Wax Melts? Yes, standard candle wax can be used for wax melts. Simply remove leftover wax from the candle jar and place it in a wax melter. It’s an excellent way to make the most of your candle wax and enjoy your favorite scents in a new format. So, if you follow these steps, you’ll turn leftover wax into beautiful new melts, ready to fill your home with wonderful scents once more. Yes, wax melts are generally considered safer than traditional candles because they don’t involve an open flame. Many people prefer electric wax burners over tea-light versions, especially in households with children, for an added layer of safety and peace of mind. Is Melting Wax Unhealthy? Wax melts, when used correctly, are typically safe and don’t pose major health risks. However, individual sensitivities to fragrances can vary, so it's important to monitor for any adverse reactions and use wax melts in well-ventilated areas to ensure a pleasant experience. What Can You Do With Old Wax Melts?

on Aug 18 2024
If you cherish a home filled with delightful aromas, wax melts are a fantastic option. They offer a safer alternative to traditional candles and have gained popularity for good reason.  But what happens when your wax melts lose their fragrance? Can you still make use of the leftover wax? In this article, we’ll explore some ways about how you can breathe new life into those spent wax melts and explore creative ways to repurpose them. Let’s get into it: Freshen Up Your Drawers or Cupboards  Even after hours of use, your wax melts can still pack a punch. Once they've solidified again, place them in a drawer or cupboard to keep things smelling delightful. For a neat solution, tuck them into an envelope or a cloth pouch to prevent any mess. Just remember to avoid food storage areas to maintain hygiene. DIY Tealights  Why toss out those old wax melts when you can transform them into new tealights? Collect your used wax melts and melt them down. Pour the liquid wax into a new tealight mold, add a wick, and let it set. Voilà—recycled tealights that provide a personal touch to your ambiance. Bin Freshener  Give your waste bins a pleasant twist! Place used wax melts at the bottom of your bin to neutralize unpleasant odors. For larger bins, use a couple of melts or combine different fragrances for a continuous fresh scent. It’s an eco-friendly way to keep your bin smelling lovely. Bathroom and Toilet Air Fresheners  Repurpose your wax melts in smaller spaces like bathrooms or toilets. Simply place them in a heat-safe container or on a plate to act as a mini air freshener. For best results, use highly fragranced melts and remember to replace them periodically to keep the scent fresh and inviting. Scented Sachets  Transform used wax melts into charming scented sachets. Melt down the wax and pour it into small fabric pouches. Hang them in closets or keep them in drawers for a subtle, lingering fragrance. Car Fresheners  Create custom car air fresheners by melting wax and pouring it into silicone molds or small containers. Place these in your car to enjoy a delightful scent on the go. Gift Toppers  Use leftover wax melts as decorative toppers for gifts. Melt them and pour into small molds or shapes, and use them to add a touch of fragrance and charm to gift packaging. How do you dispose of old wax melts? When your wax melts have cooled and solidified, simply use a couple of cotton wool balls to absorb the leftover wax. Dispose of the wax-soaked cotton in your kitchen bin. This method is ideal for burners without removable dishes. Should I throw away melted wax? Yes, but with care. Absorb residual melted wax using kitchen towel or tissue paper and discard it in the trash. For used wicks, place them in the refuse bin. Remove any metal sustainer, clean it, and recycle it with your mixed recyclables. Are wax melts recyclable? While wax melts themselves aren't typically recyclable, you can creatively repurpose them. Consider making new candles from old wax or using them in other DIY projects. This not only extends their life but also helps reduce waste. Wax melts bring a touch of elegance and warmth to your home, and even when their fragrance wanes, there's still plenty of life left in them. Repurpose old wax melts in creative ways—freshen up your drawers, craft your own tealights, or enhance the scent of your bins and car. You can also turn them into charming sachets or decorative gift toppers for a personal touch. When it’s time to dispose of old wax, simply absorb the leftover wax with cotton wool or kitchen paper and dispose of it thoughtfully. While wax melts aren't typically recyclable, their versatility means you can extend their life in many eco-friendly ways. Microwave the wax melts in short intervals (5-10 seconds), stirring between each session. Continue until the wax is fully melted. Microwaving provides a quick way to melt your wax melts. However, be cautious not to overheat, as excessive heat can be a fire hazard. Always use microwave-safe containers and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure safety. Essential Precautions When Using Wax Melts Without a Warmer If you're enjoying wax melts without a traditional wax warmer or burner, keeping safety at the forefront is crucial. Follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and pleasant experience: Choose Heat-Safe Dishes: Always use heat-resistant materials like ceramic or glass. Avoid metal or plastic containers, as they may melt or catch fire under heat. Never Leave Unattended: Whether you're using a makeshift method or a different heating source, never leave melting wax unattended. This helps prevent accidents and ensures a safe environment. Handle with Care: Wax can get very hot. Always handle melted wax with caution to avoid burns. Use appropriate tools or allow the wax to cool before touching. Keep Out of Reach: Store wax melts and any heated wax in places that are out of reach of children and pets. This helps prevent accidental ingestion or burns. Can You Use Wax Melts in Drawers or Cupboards?  Absolutely! Used wax melts can be a charming way to freshen up your drawers or cupboards. Simply place a few in a bowl or sachet, and enjoy a subtle, pleasant fragrance. Just avoid placing them in food storage areas to keep things hygienic. Can You Use Wax Melts Without a Warmer?  Yes, you can! If you don't have a wax warmer, there are many different methods you can use. For example, place the wax melts in the bowl and set it on a warm surface like a radiator. This method allows the wax to melt and release its fragrance. Can You Mix Wax Melts with Water?  No, mixing wax melts with water is not recommended. Wax melts are designed to be used dry and without additional liquids. Adding water can interfere with the melting process and may not produce the desired scent effect. Keep it simple and enjoy the pure, unadulterated fragrance. Whether you're using a traditional wax warmer, a DIY setup, or alternative methods like microwaving or heating on the stove, each approach has its benefits and considerations. Always choose heat-safe dishes, handle hot wax carefully, and keep your melts away from children and pets for a safe and enjoyable experience. Where Does Soy Wax Come From?

on Aug 17 2024
At Seventh Avenue Candles, we’re firmly care about the origins of our wax. Here’s an in-depth look at where soy wax comes from and the processes that transform it into the perfect medium for our candles. The Origins of Soybeans Soy wax begins with the soybean, a remarkable legume grown primarily in South America, including Argentina and Brazil, as well as in the United States and Europe. Rich in protein and essential fatty acids, soybeans have long been a staple in agriculture. They are harvested, cleaned, and cracked open to reveal their oil-rich core. Transforming Soybeans into Soy Wax The Initial Processing: The harvested soybeans are cleaned thoroughly to remove impurities. Once cleaned, they are cracked and de-hulled, leaving the inner soy kernels. These kernels are then rolled into fine flakes, which are crucial for extracting the oil. The Extraction of Soybean Oil: The next step is extracting the oil from these flakes. This is done using advanced methods such as solvent extraction or mechanical pressing. The extracted oil is then refined to remove any residual impurities, ensuring a pure base for the next stage. Hydrogenation: The Key to Soy Wax: The refined soybean oil undergoes a critical transformation through hydrogenation. This process involves adding hydrogen to the oil, which alters its chemical structure and solidifies it at room temperature. Hydrogenation increases the oil’s melting point and creates a stable, solid wax that is ideal for candle making. The Advantages of Soy Wax Soy wax has surged in popularity since the 1990s, praised for being a more stable and affordable alternative than beeswax and a greener choice compared to paraffin. Its consistent burn and lower environmental impact make it an excellent choice for eco-conscious consumers. Here are some more benefits: 1. Sustainable and Renewable Soy wax is a renewable resource made from soybean oil. Unlike fossil fuels, which are finite, soybeans grow with sunlight and rain, making soy wax a sustainable and eco-friendly choice. Our candles support a greener planet with every burn. 2. Cleaner Burning Our soy wax candles burn cleanly without emitting the petrol-carbon soot found in paraffin candles. This means you can enjoy a purer ambiance in your home without the worry of indoor air pollutants. 3. Extended Burn Time You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the longevity of our soy wax candles. They can last up to 50% longer than their paraffin counterparts, providing exceptional value and more hours of delightful fragrance. 4. Pure and Natural Ingredients We use soy wax from GM-free soybeans that haven’t been treated with pesticides or herbicides. This ensures that even before you light one of our candles, you’re enjoying a product made from clean, natural ingredients. 5. Fragrance Retention Soy wax is excellent at holding onto fragrances. From the moment you light your candle to the day you need to replace it, the scent remains strong and consistent, enriching your space with enduring aromas. 6. Effortless Cleanup If you ever spill melted soy wax, cleanup is a breeze. Simply use hot water and soap, and the wax comes off easily without any fuss—ideal for maintaining a tidy and welcoming environment. 7. No Added Dyes or Chemicals Our candles are made without added colorants or dyes. We focus solely on premium fragrances to deliver rich, natural scents, and our candles come in elegant white or cream, free from unnecessary chemicals and additives. 8. Animal-Friendly Production We are committed to cruelty-free practices. No animal testing is involved in the production of our soy wax candles, reflecting our love for animals and our ethical values. 9. Designed for Optimal Burning We use specially designed wicks that work perfectly with soy wax, ensuring an efficient burn. These wicks help you enjoy every bit of the wax you purchase, minimizing waste and maximizing your candle’s performance. 10. Biodegradable and Eco-Conscious The soy wax in our candles is biodegradable, which means it breaks down naturally and doesn’t contribute to environmental harm. It’s a thoughtful choice for those who care about both their home and the planet. Some Key Insights About Natural Candles Apart from being a huge trend, natural candles represent a cleaner, more eco-conscious choice for candle enthusiasts. If you’re considering making the switch, here’s what you need to know about these environmentally friendly options: 1. Fewer Chemicals for a Healthier Burn Natural candles, such as those made from beeswax or soy wax, avoid the use of paraffin, which is derived from petroleum. This means they have fewer chemicals, aligning better with a clean and healthy lifestyle. Their minimal chemical content makes them a great choice for those seeking a purer candle experience. 2. Longevity and Value When it comes to longevity, natural candles outperform their paraffin counterparts. They generally burn longer, offering excellent value for your money. Enjoy extended hours of ambiance and fragrance without having to frequently replace your candles. 3. Support Local Economies Many natural candles are crafted locally, which helps support local businesses and reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance shipping. By choosing locally made natural candles, you contribute to your community’s economy and enjoy products that are fresher and more sustainable. 4. Subtle and Elegant Fragrances Natural candles often provide a more understated fragrance compared to the sometimes overpowering scents of paraffin candles. Many people appreciate the delicate aroma of soy wax candles, which can add a refined touch to any space without overwhelming the senses. 5. Respiratory-Friendly Choice For those with respiratory issues, natural candles are a superior option. The absence of paraffin and other chemicals in these candles means fewer pollutants are released into the air, creating a cleaner and more breathable environment. What to Watch Out For with Inexpensive Soy Candles While the benefits of soy wax candles are well-documented, not all soy candles are created equal. Here’s what you should be aware of: The Risks of Cheap Soy Blends Be cautious with inexpensive soy candles, as they often contain a mix of soy and paraffin wax. The less pure the soy wax, the more synthetic additives it may include. Always check the labels to determine the soy content and avoid candles that don’t meet your quality standards. Quality Matters in Candle Burning Cheap soy candles can sometimes exhibit poor burning performance, such as tunnelling. We pride ourselves on crafting candles that burn evenly and efficiently, thanks to our rigorous testing. Our 100% soy wax candles offer a superior burn, ensuring you get the best experience with every light. How is soy wax created? Soy wax is crafted from soybean oil. After harvesting, soybeans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and turned into flakes. The oil is then extracted and undergoes hydrogenation, which converts unsaturated fats into saturated fats, solidifying the oil into wax. Is soy wax environmentally friendly? Yes, soy wax is biodegradable and made from a renewable, plant-based resource. Unlike petroleum-based waxes, it breaks down naturally, making it a more eco-friendly choice for candles and other applications. Its sustainability helps reduce environmental impact. Is soy wax vegan? Indeed, soy wax is vegan-friendly. Unlike beeswax, which comes from bees and is debated within vegan communities, soy wax is entirely plant-based. It offers a cruelty-free alternative for those avoiding animal products and by-products in their products. What are the healthiest candles to use? Soy wax, coconut wax, and beeswax are among the healthiest options for candles. Look for labels that specify 100% soy or beeswax, and choose products that are sustainably sourced and cruelty-free to ensure you're using non-toxic and environmentally responsible candles. Is soy wax toxic-free? Yes, soy wax is toxic-free. As a natural wax, it produces fewer pollutants and less soot compared to other waxes. This results in cleaner indoor air, making soy candles a better choice for those with respiratory issues or allergies. Do soy wax candles clean the air? Soy wax candles burn cleaner than paraffin candles, releasing minimal soot into the air. Although some soot may occur, it is significantly less compared to paraffin. This contributes to better indoor air quality, making soy candles a healthier option. What is special about soy wax? Soy wax stands out for its lower melting point, which allows it to burn cooler and last longer than paraffin. It is biodegradable, non-toxic, and vegan-friendly, derived from pesticide-free soybeans, making it an eco-friendly and long-lasting candle choice. Is soy wax better than candle wax? Yes, soy wax is superior to paraffin wax. It is a natural, hydrogenated oil that burns cleaner, producing less soot and toxins. This makes soy wax a healthier option for both the environment and your well-being, offering a cleaner, more sustainable burn. How Is Soy Wax Made?

on Aug 17 2024
Ever wondered about the journey of a soy wax candle? Why don’t we look into the fascinating process that transforms soybeans into the elegant, eco-friendly candles you love.  The Soybean: The journey begins with the soybean. Here’s how soybeans are transformed into the base for your favorite candles: Harvesting and Initial Processing: Soybeans are harvested from the fields and cleaned very well to remove any impurities. The beans are then cracked open to expose the inner core, which is rich in oil. De-Hulling and Flaking: The next step involves de-hulling the soybeans to remove the outer shell. What remains is then rolled into fine flakes, which are essential for extracting the soybean oil used in making wax. Turning Oil into Wax: The Hydrogenation Process With the soy flakes prepared, the next phase is the transformation of soybean oil into solid wax: Extraction of Soybean Oil: The oil is extracted from the soy flakes using advanced methods such as solvent extraction or mechanical pressing. This oil is then purified to remove any residual impurities. Hydrogenation: This is where the magic happens. The purified soybean oil undergoes hydrogenation—a process where hydrogen is introduced to transform the liquid oil into a solid wax. Hydrogenation changes the chemical structure of the oil, increasing its melting point and solidifying it at room temperature. This process is critical as it creates a wax with the ideal consistency for candle-making. Creating the Candle: From Melting to Curing With the wax ready, candle makers can start crafting: Melting and Blending: Soy wax flakes or pellets are melted in a boiler, reaching a temperature where they become a liquid. At this stage, candle makers blend in fragrances and dyes. The wax should be heated to between 175°F and 185°F to ensure complete melting and optimal incorporation of color and scent. Adding Fragrance and Color: Fragrance oils are added when the wax is between 160°F and 185°F to ensure they bind effectively. For a consistent color, dyes are mixed in when the wax is fully melted. This ensures a vibrant and even color throughout the candle. Wicking and Pouring: Prepping the wick is essential. It’s placed in the candle container before pouring in the melted wax. The wax is then carefully poured into the container, encasing the wick and ensuring an even set. Cooling and Curing: The filled containers are left to cool at room temperature. This can take up to 24 hours. During this time, the wax solidifies and the fragrance fully integrates, ensuring a clean, consistent burn. Curing time of up to 12 days is recommended for the best scent throw and performance. Why Choose Soy Wax? Soy wax offers several benefits that set it apart from traditional paraffin: Eco-Friendly: Made from renewable soybeans, soy wax is a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based paraffin wax. Clean Burning: Soy candles burn more cleanly, producing less soot compared to paraffin candles. This helps maintain air quality in your home. Long-Lasting and Effective: Soy wax has a longer burn time and a superior scent throw, filling your space with fragrance without compromising on burn quality. Recyclable and Renewable: Soy wax is fully recyclable, supporting environmental sustainability and reducing waste. What are the cons of soy wax? Soy wax has a few downsides. It can expand or contract, which might create gaps in your candles. It doesn’t always mix well with every fragrance oil, and can develop frost marks. Plus, it’s sensitive to humidity and temperature changes, which can affect its performance. Is soy wax eco-friendly? Absolutely! Soy wax is eco-friendly because it’s biodegradable and made from a renewable resource. Unlike petroleum-based waxes, soy wax breaks down naturally, making it a more sustainable and environmentally conscious choice for your candle-making needs. Do soy candles go bad? Yes, soy candles can expire. Typically, they last between 1 to 2 years when stored correctly. Like other natural products, they can degrade over time, so keeping them in a cool, dry place will help maintain their quality and performance. Is soy wax bad for you? No, soy wax isn’t bad for you. It produces much less soot and fewer harmful chemicals like toluene and benzene when burned. This makes soy wax candles a healthier choice, particularly for individuals with allergies, asthma, or sensitivities to air quality. Explore our curated collection of soy wax candles to illuminate your space with both elegance and sustainability. Our soy wax candles are crafted to offer a clean burn and a refined ambiance, all while embracing eco-friendly practices. Each candle in our collection is designed to bring a touch of sophistication to your space while showcasing the natural benefits of soy wax.

How To Use Wax Melts

If you’re new to the enchanting world of wax melts, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a cozy guide to help you immerse yourself in the delightful aromas that make your space truly special. Essential Tools for Your Wax Melt Journey To enhance your wax melt experience, you'll need a few key items. Here’s a quick guide: Wax Warmer: Electric Wax Melt Burners: Ideal for safety and convenience. These warmers heat your wax without an open flame, offering consistent and reliable warmth. Tea Light Warmers: Use a tea light candle to melt the wax. They add charm but require more attention due to the open flame. Additional Accessories: Paper Towels: Essential for quick clean-ups, keeping your melting area tidy. Potholders: Protect your hands while handling the warmer when it’s hot. Choosing Your Perfect Wax Melt Begin by selecting your wax melt from our collection. Our wax melts come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, each crafted from premium wax.  If you’re experimenting, start with a single cube to find your ideal scent strength. If you crave a bolder aroma, simply add more cubes. Just ensure your burner’s dish is spacious enough to prevent any wax overflow. To find your ideal wax melt, consider these key factors: Scent Preference: Select fragrances that speak to your personal taste and create the mood you desire. Longevity and Strength: Look for melts that offer a lasting, robust scent throw. Type of Wax: Decide between luxurious soy wax melts or traditional paraffin wax based on your needs. Brand Reputation: Choose reputable brands known for their high-quality, beautifully scented melts. Starting the Melting Place your chosen wax cubes into the bowl of your wax warmer. For electric warmers, switch it on and let the magic begin. If you’re using a classic wax melt burner, place an unscented tea light beneath the bowl and light it. The gentle heat will melt the wax, releasing its exquisite fragrance into the air. Savoring the Scent Sit back and relax as the wax melts, filling your room with a soothing aroma. Typically, one wax cube will melt completely within about 8 hours.  If using a tea light, it might need replacing after around 4 hours. Electric warmers often have built-in timers, but if yours doesn’t, consider using a timer to remind you to switch off the warmer.  Once cooled, the wax will solidify and be ready for your next fragrance session. Easy clean up  After enjoying your wax melts, cleaning your burner is a breeze. Wait until it has cooled down completely.  You can remove leftover wax by soaking it up with cotton wool or, for an easier option, pop it out with a spoon once hardened. For a spotless finish, wipe the dish with a damp cloth or paper towel. Safety First: Precautions to Take When Using Wax Melts Even though wax melts offer a safer alternative to traditional candles, it's still important to exercise caution. Keep your wax warmer in sight while it's in use and place it out of reach of children and pets. Avoid touching the warmer when it's on, as it can become hot to the touch. For safe disposal of used wax, never pour it down the drain to avoid potential clogs. Instead, allow the wax to cool and solidify, then gently scoop it out with a paper towel. By following these simple safety tips, you can enjoy your wax melts with peace of mind. Do You Burn Wax Melts Until the Wax is Gone? Wax melts differ from candles in that the wax itself doesn’t evaporate. Instead, the fragrance gradually diminishes as the wax melts. Once the scent is gone, the wax remains, so you’ll end up with unfragranced wax after prolonged use. How Many Times Can You Use a Wax Melt? Wax melts can typically be used 4 to 5 times before the fragrance fades away completely. The exact number of uses may vary based on the type of wax and fragrance. Each time, the scent will gradually diminish until it’s no longer noticeable. Do You Need to Add Water to Wax Melts? No, you don’t need to add water to wax melts. Simply place one or two cubes into the dish of your wax warmer. For electric warmers, just switch it on and let the wax melt, releasing its delightful aroma. Is It Safe to Leave a Wax Melt On All Day? While wax melts are great for filling your space with fragrance, they should never be left unattended. The heat can cause the wax to catch fire if not monitored. Always place your warmer on a stable surface and keep an eye on it to ensure safety. How Many Wax Melts Should I Use at a Time? For Optimal Aroma: Start with two squares of your wax melt bar. This should provide a delightful fragrance for at least 8+ hours. When to Replenish: If the scent starts to fade, it's time to refresh. Scoop out the old wax, clean your melt dish (especially if switching scents), and add another two cubes for a renewed burst of fragrance. With these simple steps, you’re all set to experience the wonderful world of wax melts. For the finest soy wax melts that really elevate your home’s ambiance, explore our collection at Seventh Avenue Candles. Enjoy the journey to fragrance bliss!

How Long Do Wax Melts Last?

on Aug 15 2024
So, you’ve just picked up your first batch of wax melts, or perhaps you’ve taken the DIY route and crafted your own. Whether you're new to the world of wax melts or an enthusiastic maker, understanding how to get the most out of your melts is key to enjoying their full aromatic potential. We want you to get the most out of your wax melts, so here’s a simple guide to understanding their longevity and how you can make your favorite scents last longer.  How Temperature Affects Burn Time Temperature Settings: The heat of your wax warmer impacts how quickly your melts dissolve. Higher temperatures mean a stronger scent but a shorter burn time. For longer-lasting melts, keep your warmer at a moderate setting. Electric vs. Candle-Lit Warmers: Electric warmers can run up to 10 hours, though the exact time can vary. Candle-lit warmers with tealights usually last between 4-8 hours. Using a tealight with a longer burn time can help extend the life of your melts. The Impact of Wax Type Soy and Beeswax: These natural waxes generally last longer and burn cleaner compared to others. They’re also eco-friendly. For a longer-lasting fragrance, choose soy or beeswax melts and avoid paraffin wax if you're concerned about environmental impact. Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils Essential Oils: These natural oils may not last as long as fragrance oils but offer a pure scent experience. Fragrance Oils: These synthetic options often have a longer-lasting scent. Some melts use a blend of both for a unique and enduring aroma. Tips to Extend the Life of Your Wax Melts Optimize Placement for Maximum Fragrance To ensure your wax melts last longer and release their full aromatic potential, position your wax warmer away from strong air currents like open windows or vents. Placing it near the center of the room allows the fragrance to circulate more evenly, providing a richer and more enduring scent experience. Avoid Excess Heat Heat can accelerate the melting process and diminish the lifespan of your wax melts. Keep your warmer away from direct heat sources like stoves or radiators. If you're using a lit tealight, be mindful not to place it too close to the wax, as excessive heat can cause the wax to melt too quickly. Adjust the Number of Tealights Using more tealights can increase the intensity of the scent throw, but it will also cause the wax to melt faster. Balance the number of tealights to achieve your desired fragrance strength while managing how quickly the wax melts. Control the Temperature For electric warmers, regulate the temperature to ensure a steady, moderate melt rate. Higher temperatures can lead to faster wax melting and quicker fragrance dissipation. Keeping the heat at a lower setting can help prolong the scent throw. Proper Storage to Maintain Fragrance Store in Sealed Containers To preserve the fragrance of your wax melts when they’re not in use, store them in airtight containers or sealed bags. Avoid stacking them to prevent any potential damage or scent loss. Keep in a Cool, Dark Place Store your wax melts in a cool, dry, and dark area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. A well-chosen storage spot can keep your wax melts fresh and fragrant for up to a year. Reusing Wax Melts You can reuse wax melts multiple times. The wax itself remains usable even as the scent diminishes, so you'll need to switch them out once the aroma starts to fade. How to Tell It's Time for a Fresh Batch To determine when it's time to replace your wax melts, pay attention to these signs: Faint Fragrance: If you notice the scent becoming weak or barely noticeable, it's a good indicator that the fragrance has dissipated. Reduced Scent Throw: When the wax melts don’t fill the room with the same intensity of aroma as they used to, it’s time for a change. Visual Clues: If the wax appears discolored or has an unusual texture, it might be time to switch it out. How Often Should You Change Wax Melts? For the best fragrance experience, it's ideal to change your wax melts every 4-5 hours. When the scent begins to fade or you can no longer detect the fragrance, it's time to swap out your old wax for a fresh batch. How Long Do Wax Melts Hold Their Scent? The duration a wax melt retains its scent depends on the size and number of melts used. For instance, our Earth Secrets tins offer up to 100 hours of fragrance with 50 melts, while The Scented Home Wax Melts provide up to 80 hours of scent per pack. Generally, expect each wax melt to last around 8-12 hours, though this can vary. How Do You Know When a Wax Melt is Finished? A wax melt is finished when the scent no longer fills the room. Typically, two wax cubes will deliver around 8-12 hours of fragrance. If the scent becomes faint or the wax appears used, it's time to replace it. This can also be influenced by the wax melt's fragrance throw. Do Wax Melts Burn Away Completely? Unlike candles, wax melts do not evaporate; they simply pool and eventually lose their fragrance. After several uses, the scent will diminish, leaving behind unfragranced wax. You can reuse your wax melts approximately 3-4 times with a 4-hour tea light, though this can vary based on your burner type and the wax melt used. By following these tips, you can enjoy a longer-lasting and more effective scent throw from your wax melts, ensuring that your space always smells delightful. Why Timing and Temperature Matters When Making Soy Wax Candles

on Aug 14 2024
The perfect soy candle isn’t just about choosing the right wax or wick; timing and temperature play crucial roles, especially when it comes to adding fragrance. Let’s talk about why these factors are essential and how to get them just right for a beautifully scented candle. Why Timing and Temperature Matter Creating a beautifully fragrant soy candle requires patience and precision. Adding fragrance oil at the wrong time or temperature can lead to lackluster results, so let’s ensure your candle-making process is a success. Perfect Blending: Temperature MattersFor your fragrance oil to blend seamlessly with soy wax, it’s essential to add it at the right temperature. If the wax is too cool when you add the fragrance, they won’t bind properly. This can lead to poor scent throw or, even worse, fragrance seepage where the oil leaks out. Aim to add your fragrance when the wax is between 160°F and 185°F, which allows for optimal binding and a strong, consistent scent. Finding the Right RatioThe ratio of fragrance oil to wax is critical for achieving that perfect scent throw. For fragrance oils, use 8-10% of the total wax weight. If you’re using essential oils, start with 5%, as they’re more concentrated and can impact scent strength differently. For precise measurements, consider using a fragrance oil and wax calculator to avoid guesswork. Avoid OverheatingIt’s equally important to avoid overheating the wax. Excessive heat can cause the fragrance oil to evaporate too quickly, resulting in a weaker scent throw. Maintain a temperature range that’s just right for incorporating your fragrance without burning it off. The flashpoint is the temperature at which a liquid evaporates, and it can vary significantly between fragrance oils. Common flashpoint ranges are: Less than 131°F Between 131°F and 175°F 176°F and above Add your fragrance oil when the wax cools to just below the oil’s flashpoint. This approach ensures that your scent remains intact and doesn’t dissipate during the mixing process. When to Add Fragrance to Soy Wax For soy wax, the ideal time to add fragrance is when the wax is between 50°F and 60°F above its melting point. If your soy wax melts at 125°F, heat it up to around 175°F to 185°F before adding your fragrance. This ensures proper blending and sets you up for a successful pour. Once the fragrance is mixed in, let the wax cool to its optimal pouring temperature of 120°F to 140°F before transferring it to your container. Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils Essential oils are natural extracts that offer a pure scent but can be more expensive and have a subtler throw compared to fragrance oils. Fragrance oils, which often combine essential oils with other ingredients, generally provide a stronger scent throw and are more cost-effective. Each has its place, depending on your candle goals and budget. The Final Touch: Pouring and Curing After adding fragrance, let the wax cool to the appropriate pouring temperature before filling your containers. Once poured, your candles should cure for up to 12 days. This allows the wax to set fully and ensures the best performance of your fragrance. How the Type of Wax Affects How You Add Fragrance Oil? The type of wax you use can influence when and how you add fragrance oil. Each wax has its unique melting point, so it's crucial to tailor your approach based on the wax you’re working with. While most waxes start melting around 130°F, the optimal temperature for adding fragrance varies. For soy wax, the ideal temperature for blending in your fragrance oil is between 155°F and 165°F. This range ensures that the wax is fluid enough to mix thoroughly without overheating. Always ensure that your wax reaches its maximum melting point before cooling it to the perfect temperature for fragrance addition. What Temperature Should Soy Wax Be When Pouring? For optimal results, pour soy wax at temperatures between 120°F and 140°F. This ensures a smooth finish and proper setting. Preheat your container and cool the wax to this range before pouring to achieve the best candle quality. How much fragrance oil per 100g of soy wax? For every 100g of soy wax, add 10g of fragrance oil for a robust scent. If you prefer a subtler aroma, aim for 5-6g of fragrance oil. Adjust the amount based on your desired fragrance strength for a perfect balance. Should You Let Soy Wax Cool Before Pouring? Yes, it’s essential to let soy wax cool before pouring. Pouring at too high a temperature can cause the wax to shrink and create unsightly holes or dips in your candle. Wait until the wax reaches a smooth, slightly cooled consistency for a flawless finish. Why Does My Soy Candle Not Smell? If your soy candle lacks fragrance, it might be due to the wax not being hot enough when you added the scent. At insufficient temperatures, fragrance oils can settle at the bottom, leading to a weak or inconsistent scent throw. Ensure your wax is adequately heated to mix in the fragrance fully. When Should I Add Color to Soy Wax? Add color to soy wax only when it’s fully melted, typically between 175°F and 185°F. This ensures the colorant blends evenly, giving your candle a vibrant and consistent hue throughout. Can You Overheat Soy Wax? Yes, overheating soy wax can disrupt its chemistry, leading to separation and inconsistent results. Whether using a pot or microwave, be cautious not to exceed recommended temperatures to maintain the wax’s quality and effectiveness. By mastering the art of timing and temperature, you ensure that your soy candles are not only visually stunning but also wonderfully fragrant. How To Make Soy Wax Candles

on Aug 14 2024
Eager to dive into the world of soy wax candle making? We’ve got you covered! Our step-by-step guide will walk you through the entire process of creating your own soy candles, from adding color and scent to crafting two stunning, handmade soy container candles. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned crafter, this tutorial will equip you with the skills you need to make beautiful candles right at home. Why Choose Soy Wax? Soy wax is the ideal choice for beginners and experts alike. It’s easy to work with, burns beautifully, and cleans up effortlessly with just soap and water or rubbing alcohol. Plus, it’s perfect for anyone looking to create candles that burn longer and cleaner. Crafting Your Own Soy Wax Candle:  1. Melt the wax Begin your candle-making adventure by melting soy wax flakes. Place them in a glass bowl and set it atop a saucepan filled with water, creating a double boiler setup. Gently heat the wax, stirring occasionally, until it’s smooth and pourable. For every 2 cups of flakes, you’ll get 1 cup of liquid wax.  Prefer a quicker method? Microwave the flakes in one-minute bursts until melted. While you’re at it, give your glass jar a warm-up to ensure the wax sets perfectly. Infuse Your Fragrance Once your wax reaches a cozy 120 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s time to add a touch of magic with your chosen fragrance. Gently stir it in—no need to heat further, as you don’t want to lose any of that delightful aroma. Use 1 ounce of fragrance oil per pound of wax for a strong scent, or experiment with 50-100 drops of essential oils for a natural touch.  Remember, the scent will soften as the candle sets, so find your perfect balance. Anchor the Wick To keep your wick in place, dab a bit of melted wax onto the bottom of your container and press the wick into it. Hold it there until the wax hardens, then use a clothespin or wick holder to keep it centered and upright. For shallow, wide containers, consider adding a few wicks for a well-balanced burn.  Alternatively, a touch of superglue will keep it securely in position. Pour with Precision Before pouring, give your melted wax a final stir to ensure it's smooth and even. Slowly pour the wax into your container, leaving a bit of space at the top. Any extra wax can be saved for your next candle-making adventure.  Enjoy the calming aroma as it fills your space! Let It Set Allow your candle to set overnight, soaking in the serene anticipation of its light. Once fully hardened, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch.  Your handcrafted soy candle is now ready to bring warmth and joy to your home. Is it safe to make soy candles at home? Yes, making soy candles at home is safe. Research shows that most common candle waxes, including soy, burn cleanly. For a purely animal-free option, soy wax is a fantastic choice, offering peace of mind along with a clean burn. How to add fragrance to soy candles? To infuse your soy candles with fragrance, mix in fragrance oils at 8-10% of the total wax weight. For essential oils, a ratio of 5% works well. Ensure you stir thoroughly to distribute the scent evenly throughout the wax. Do soy candles burn longer than paraffin candles? Yes, soy candles generally burn longer than paraffin ones. They produce no petro soot, making them a cleaner, more eco-friendly option. For a healthier home ambiance, consider switching to soy candles for an extended, clean-burning fragrance. What is the safest wax for candles? Truly non-toxic candles that are 100% natural should be made out of soy or beeswax for example. Opt for candles scented with pure essential oils or unscented, and wicks made from cotton, paper, or wood. Transparency in ingredient lists helps ensure you’re making a safe choice. What Is Soy Wax?

on Aug 14 2024
Soy wax is a natural wonder, crafted from the oil of soybeans, offering a clean, eco-friendly burn that’s as gentle on the planet as it is on your senses. Here, we’ll explore the essence of soy wax, unveiling what makes it such a great choice for our high-quality candles.  What Are Soy Wax Candles? Soy wax candles are crafted from soybeans, a natural and eco-friendly resource. Unlike paraffin wax candles, which are derived from petroleum by-products and can contain harmful toxins, soy wax candles are free from these chemicals. Additionally, soy wax is biodegradable and boasts a lower carbon footprint compared to paraffin, making it a more sustainable and environmentally conscious choice for your home. Here’s how it comes to life: From The Fields Soy wax begins in America’s soybean fields. After harvest, soybeans are cleaned, cracked, and de-hulled. The flakes are pressed to extract oil, which is then hydrogenated to become solid at room temperature. The remaining husks are recycled as animal feed, promoting sustainability. Hydrogenation Process Hydrogenation turns soybean oil into soy wax by converting unsaturated fatty acids to saturated ones. This process lowers the melting point, resulting in a wax that melts evenly, burns cleanly, and holds fragrance well. Soybean Origins Grown mainly in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana, soybeans are a local, renewable resource. This ensures a reliable supply for our candles, supporting both high quality and environmental sustainability. Versatile Uses of Soy Wax Soy wax is incredibly versatile in candle making. Here’s how it’s used: Pure Soy Wax: You can use soy wax on its own, such as Golden Brands 415, which offers excellent performance and a smooth finish. Blended Soy Wax: For enhanced properties, soy wax can be blended with other natural oils, to achieve specific effects and performance characteristics. Paraffin-Soy Blends: Combining soy wax with paraffin creates a parasoy blend, which merges the benefits of both materials for a balanced performance. Benefits of Soy Wax Now that we know what soy wax is, lets find out about the range of advantages that make it a standout choice: Non-Toxic and Cleaner Burning: Safe for Your Space: Soy wax is free from toxins, carcinogens, and pollutants, making it a healthier choice for your home. Unlike some other waxes, soy wax doesn’t produce harmful byproducts or black soot that can discolor walls and curtains. Allergy-Friendly: Its clean-burning nature reduces the risk of triggering allergies, creating a safer and more comfortable environment. Longer, More Even Burn: Extended Burn Time: With a lower melting point compared to paraffin wax, soy candles burn slower and last longer. This means you get more enjoyment from each candle. Enhanced Scent Throw: The lower heat and larger melt pool of soy wax allow for a better evaporation of fragrance oils, resulting in a stronger and more pleasant scent that fills your space. Easy Cleanup: Biodegradable and Simple to Clean: Soy wax is biodegradable, so cleaning up spills is straightforward. Just use soap and water for a hassle-free cleanup process. Natural, Renewable, and Vegan: Eco-Friendly and Ethical: Derived from soybeans, soy wax is a natural and renewable resource. It’s also vegan-friendly, supporting a cruelty-free lifestyle. DIY Potential: For the crafty at heart, you can even make your own soy wax at home from soybeans, adding a personal touch to your candle-making journey. Is Soy Wax Better Than Candle Wax? Yes, soy wax is indeed the superior choice. Made from hydrogenated soybean oil, it’s all-natural and burns cleaner than paraffin wax. Soy wax candles produce less soot and fewer toxins, making them a healthier option for both your home and the environment. What Is Special About Soy Wax? Soy wax is unique for several reasons. It’s a natural, renewable resource that’s both biodegradable and easy to clean with just soap and water. With a lower melting point than paraffin, soy candles burn slower and longer. Plus, they produce no petro soot, offering a cleaner burn and a more eco-friendly choice. What's the Difference Between Soy Wax and Regular Wax? Soy wax is all-natural and free from artificial additives, making it a healthier choice compared to traditional paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum and releases harmful by-products when burned. Soy wax is non-toxic, benefiting both your health and the environment. Is Soy Wax 100% Natural? Yes, soy wax is 100% natural, derived from vegetable soybeans, a major crop in the U.S., especially in the Midwest. This makes it a sustainable and eco-friendly option, with most soybeans being grown and harvested locally. Is Soy Wax OK for Skin? Soy wax can be used as a skin lotion, ideal for areas like cuticles, hands, heels, and elbows. It’s best avoided on the face or sensitive areas. Soy wax also works well as a massage oil, offering soothing benefits. At Seventh Avenue Apothecary, we’re passionate about the benefits of soy wax. This natural, plant-based wax delivers a cleaner burn, longer-lasting candles, and a stronger scent throw compared to traditional paraffin. With its biodegradable nature and eco-friendly origins, soy wax is also better for your home whilst also being better for our planet! So, illuminate your space with the pure, natural glow of soy wax and explore our soy wax candles and soy wax melts.
